Each unit that sponsors Treasure Hunt Activities
also sponsors the Book Bucks and other goodies!

Note that some incentives are available to all participants each year you wish to participate in the Treasure Hunt (marked Every Year). Other incentives can only be collected once (marked One Time Only).

 


BYU Bookstore Luncheon - Earn $25 in Book Bucks (One Time Only)

Attend a luncheon with the BYU Bookstore and receive a great meal, $25 book bucks, and lots of valuable information.  Participants will get to know the many services the Bookstore provides to University personnel.  The Bookstore will also answer all of your questions about getting your textbooks on the shelves at the right time and at the right price for your students.

BYU Wellness - Earn $10 in Book Bucks + $25 Cash Incentive for qualified DMBA insurance holders* (One Year Only)

Participate in one health challenge between now and April 30th to earn $10 in book bucks.

*If you have DMBA insurance and you are the primary insurance holder, you can earn $25 for each challenge--up to $200 from DMBA in 2009. See the Wellness website for more details!

Participation in the Wellness Program is a great way to keep you motivated to be healthy throughout the year. Look online to check for all health challenges and other events (wellness.byu.edu).

Faculty Center Activities - Earn $10 in Book Bucks for each activity (Every Year)

The Faculty Center gems will include activities that will help you get a quick start at BYU; why not collect a few book bucks in the process?

Faculty Center Activity Details

Maximum of $10 awarded in each category

  • Read at least 3 chapters from a book on advice for faculty to help you navigate the ins and outs of a successful faculty career; several are available in our library or choose one yourself that covers the appropriate topic. We encourage you to read as many as you have time for, but book bucks for this activity can only be collected once.

  • Read at least 3 chapters from a book on scholarly productivity to help you learn to develop and master the habits of successful researchers. Again we encourage your enthusiasm in reading these helpful books, but book bucks can only be awarded once.

  • 2008-2009 NEW HIRES ONLY: Complete the first draft of your faculty development plan before the Spring Seminar (MAY 4-15, 2009). For credit, e-mail a copy of the plan to jane_birch[at]byu[dot]edu (or send through campus mail: 4450 WSC).

  • Attend at least two (you’ll probably want to attend more) Faith and Intellect seminars.

Harold B. Lee Library Luncheon - Earn $25 in Book Bucks (One Time Only)

Collect triple treasure (food, bucks, and valuable information) by attending a delicious luncheon.  Get all the "faculty-must-know" information about library services and take a quick tour of disciplinary resources.  You'll meet the all-important subject librarian for your discipline (the expert who can connect you with resources and purchase library books you may use for your research and teaching).

  • Attend a workshop on teaching improvement, including using Blackboard (BYU's preferred online course management system).

  • Attend a workshop on using in-class response systems (iClicker).

  • Attend a workshop on involving your students through active learning.

  • Schedule time with a consultant to discuss any concerns you have with structuring your course.
  • Take advantage of the SCOT (Student Consulting on Teaching) program to get feedback on your class.
  • Use CTL's walk-in services for immediate technology assistance.
  • Read a book on teaching improvement. Click here for a list of suggested books.  When you have completed the book, send an email to treasurehunt@byu.edu. Include the name of the book, and, if you can, tell us whether you found the book useful (so we will know how much to recommend the book to other faculty).

Testing Center - Earn $10 in Book Bucks for each activity (One Time Only)

The BYU Testing Center houses the largest college testing facility in the United States and Canada. Its main site has a capacity for nearly 750 students. Annually, the BYU Testing Center administers more than 800,000 tests returning over 1 million class-hours back to the university. Many testing options, including computer tests and special-needs environments, are available.

Testing Center Event Details

1. Testing Center Tour—Basics of the Testing Center (designed for faculty who have little experience with the Testing Center):
Don't wait until you’re under time/test administrative pressures to learn about Testing Center policies and procedures. Develop a relationship with theTesting Center now. Take a 10-15 minute tour of the facilities and learn about the different testing options available. Plan ahead and you'll preempt potential frustrations for both you and your students (e.g. tests not being available, busy Testing Center times, etc).

Choose from the following tour dates (no need to register). Meet in room 265 HBG:

Tuesday, September 23, 3:00 p.m.
Wednesday, September 24, 9:00 p.m.
Thursday, September 25, 11:00 a.m.

If you can't make any of these dates, you can also make an appointment with the manager of the Testing Services, Linda Shirley (linda_shirley@byu.edu, 2-6130, 265 HGB). She'll be happy to answer your questions and help you with your testing needs.

2. Download and Interpret Exam Results:
Would you like some help in understanding what your test results tell you? Meet with the Testing Services programmer to get an overview of the Testing Services website and learn how to get and use your exam results.
