Open Letter to Part-time Faculty
Dear part-time faculty member:
Part-time faculty play an important role in BYU's academic success; your work is, in fact, invaluable. To that end, we would like to make sure you are aware of two important centers on campus. They exist to support faculty in all their many endeavors. Following is information about each center's resources. We hope you will take advantage of all we have to offer.
Center for Teaching and Learning (CTL)
Since the majority of part-time faculty are focused on teaching, you will definitely want to be aware of BYU's primary support unit for teaching improvement. The CTL (located in the south-east corner of the Harold B. Lee Library) has lots of helpful resources such as:
- Awebsite loaded with teaching information
- Dedicated consultants who will meet with you to discuss any concerns you have about your courses
- The Student Consulting on Teaching (SCOT) program, which will help you to get feedback on your class
- Walk-in services for immediate, small project technology assistance
- Books on improving teaching which can be checked out
- Workshops on useful topics such as Blackboard, i-Clickers, and creating engaging learning
- Tips of the month that include:
We encourage you to get to know the dedicated people at the
CTL and let them show you how they might help.

The Faculty Center
The Faculty Center exists to support all faculty in their non-teaching academic pursuits, especially in

- We also offer the following resources:
- Faculty Center Website
We hope you will browse through other pages on this website where you will find additional information about the Faculty Center and links to other valuable resources.
- "Education for Eternity"
This project is an ongoing collection of resources addressing the relationship between academic education and the gospel of Jesus Christ. It is especially designed with BYU faculty in mind. We are currently working to expand and improve the resources on this site.
- Faith and Intellect Seminars
BYU has the unique mission of persuing the study of truth in an atmosphere of dedicated faith in the gospel of Jesus Christ. In support of that mission, the Faculty Center hosts several faith and intellect seminars throughout the year. Some last all semester; others are brown bags and one-time events. If you are interested in participating with us, contact jane_birch@byu.edu for more information about current activities.
- Email Us
When you email us, we'll get back to you with whatever help we can provide. We'd love the chance to work with you. That's why we're here.
Best wishes in your very important work!
