Beuhring CHARGE TO THE DEPARTMENT CHAIRS COORDINATING COMMITTEE (DCCC) FROM THE ASSOCIATE ACADEMIC VICE PRESIDENTFACULTYThe Coordinating Committee of Department Chairs (hereafter "the Committee") is an informal committee of four department chairs who serve at the request of the Associate Academic Vice President Faculty. The Committee will receive necessary administrative, staff, and budgetary support from the Faculty Center and from the Academic Vice President's Office. The Committee's purpose is to serve as a catalyst to bring department chairs together from across the university to share best practices and learn from each other how to improve the quality of the university. The Committee can best fulfill its role if it is an informal, advisory alliance of chairs, not interfering with the formal budgetary and line relationship, which shall remain that between the chairs and the Academic Vice President via their respective dean. The Committee should contact the chairs at least annually and focus its attention on those matters deemed by them most substantive and deserving. As the Committee discovers needs that are generally shared by department chairs, it may recommend training or the development of other resources to meet those needs. The delivery of training and resources may come through deans, be coordinated by the Committee, or come through other university channels depending on the circumstance. The Committee will send information about the schedule and topics of meetings held to deans. The Committee shall meet annually early in the school year with newly-appointed department chairs to explore with them the scope of their responsibilities and provide them with the benefit of a kind of institutional memory of best practices and substantive issues. |
