Background

Muriel worked for nearly 20 years in the public school systems in various roles including special education for both gifted and talented students and students with disabilities. Additionally, she was a substitute teacher and a teacher’s assistant.

Muriel took on her second career in higher education in 1990 as the Academic Advisor to the Assistant Director of the BYU Salt Lake Center. She joined the Faculty Center in 1994, where she has been the “gears and springs that hold the machine together.” Muriel generates and manages the budget, schedules rooms and coordinates the food service for most of the Faculty Center programs, assures that FDS participants and mentors receive the stipends, supervises student workers, and solves any computer and electrical crises that arise. Muriel also maintains the Faculty Center Library in top form and oversees its circulation.

Other Interesting Facts

Muriel likes to swim and eat and thinks it would be great if she could do more swimming and less eating. She loves church service and especially enjoys teaching the younger children in the congregation. In her "spare" time, you can find her outside her new home pulling weeds. If she could find some "real" spare time, she would love to learn more about landscaping. At the present, her work and family keep her busy enough. Muriel has five children and two grandchildren.
