Faculty Development Plan
Dance Department
2007
Personal Statement:
As a dance educator, I understand that first I must always be a student. Even though lifetime learning is not a new theory, maintaining continual growth and development is not an easily achieved objective.
For me, enhancing my professional qualities is important, but enhancing my spiritual strength is even more so. I am very much devoted to the noble mission of our university to assist individuals in their quest for perfection and eternal life. My interaction with students and fellow colleagues is a means through which I am made better and through which I hope to influence others for the better as well.
I enjoy sharing my bi-cultural professional background with students and colleagues. I love the teaching and creative work that I get to do. I revel in the time I spend with my students and hope that I am able to impact their lives in a positive manner.
In order to better serve my students, the dance department and the university, I have drafted the following development plan:
I.TEACHING
Mission Statement
I love teaching. I always feel enjoyment and excitement when I walk into a dance studio and face my students. I hope to inspire in them a lifelong passion for knowledge, and a vastness and depth of perspective. These attributes are what will extend beyond the boundaries of the dance classroom, and they are the best gifts I can offer my students in their pursuit of a fulfilling life.
Strengths:
- Bi-cultural professional background
- Strong modern dance technique training
- Good organization and implementation of teaching plans
- Passion for and engagement with others
- Able to model well for students during lessons
- Able to sense students’ needs and give appropriate assistance
Areas of opportunity:
- Develop more extensive and in-depth knowledge of Western culture and philosophy
- Become involved in more academic events both on and off campus

II.RESEARCH/CREATIVE ACTIVITY
Mission Statement

Strengths:
- Enthusiasm for subject matter

III. CITIZENSHIP

Strengths:
- Enthusiasm for attendance at faculty meetings and devotionals
- Willingness to serve where needed

Areas of concern:

Citizenship opportunities/goals:
- Observe and be observed by colleagues in teaching responsibilities
- Serve on departmental committees
- Perform administrative duties (i.e. coordinator for cultural exchange programs)
- Become involved in local, national and international level dance workshops and professional organizations
- Mentor students in research projects
- Attend all students’ performance concerts in the modern dance division and provide feedback when requested.
- Develop greater collegiality in the department by interacting with various faculty members, (e.g. sending thank-you notes, going out to lunch at least once per semester, etc.)
IV. PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT
- Daily scripture reading and prayers
- Continue to improve my understanding and use of the English language
- Attend university devotional each Tuesday in the Marriott Center
