- I am committed to exploring a variety of ways to build my collections and promote their use.

- My M.A. in English with an emphasis in folklore provides the subject expertise that is essential for my responsibilities.

- For fifteen years in the English department I taught a variety of courses which honed my teaching skills as well as forming good relationships with many professors.

F. Areas I Wish to Develop
- Increase subject expertise in folklore, place-based learning and veterans’ history.
- Improve archival skills in processing, arranging, and creating finding aids.
- Create and maintain a productive model for the Utah Heritage Project.
- Work on developing relationships in various departments across campus with ethnographic and folk culture interests.
- Improve reference skills for Special Collections, especially primary assignments in folklore, veterans’ history, and Mormon literary manuscripts.
- Stay current with trends and authors in Mormon literature and literature written by Mormons.
- Increase contacts within the archival community
Part II Professional Goals and Action Plans
A. Librarianship
Goal: Develop mutually supportive relationships with colleagues at Brigham Young University--Idaho and Brigham Young University—Hawaii who deal with ethnographic collections.
Plan: Complete ethnographic collecting policy for all BYU campuses. Build on the relationships established through this work to develop interaction between all campuses on ethnographic projects.
Goal: Develop knowledge about current veterans and the context in which they served their country.
Plan: Read Veteran’s History Project Books as well as recommended books on World War II. Meet with XXX of the Veteran’s History Project to discuss trends and current work at BYU and LC.
Goal: Study current trends in both folklore and Mormon literature
Plan: Follow Association of Mormon Letters listserv and read recommended works.
Goal: Conduct, present and/or publish significant creative professional works in archives, folklore, and Mormon literature.
Plan: Present papers at the Association of Mormon Letters and American Folklore Society conferences. Explore ways to expand articles for publication.
Goal: Develop and implement the Utah Heritage Project in connection with the American Folklore Society.
Plan: Read place-based and adult education texts. Work with XXX, of the American Folklife Center. Write a development plan for the project and prepare for Honors class in 2007 that will be part of the Utah Heritage Project.
B. Citizenship
Goals:

PART III: Relationship Between Individual Goals and University Aspirations and Resource Needs
A. Relationship between Individual Goals and University Aspirations
Brigham Young University’s mission statement contains the goal of helping “individuals in their quest for perfection and eternal life. The Harold B. Lee Library’s mission statement delineates the library’s goals in support of the university’s mission statement. Its purpose is “to acquire, organize, preserve, and make readily available collections of scholarly and related materials in all media; to assist its patrons in finding and using information available at the University and elsewhere; and to encourage lifelong learning.” My job description and collecting policies define specifics applicable to the university, library and special collections purposes.
B. Resources needed to accomplish goals

- Time to stay abreast of professional literature as well as literature under collecting areas
